Wellesley Hills Junior Woman's Clubs

DIRECT SERVICE PROJECTS

Every WHJWC member participates in a DSP.  They are divided into five categories:  Economic Needs, Elderly, Children, Kids on the Block, and Teen Center.

ECONOMIC NEEDS

Economic Needs members serve at the Wellesley Food Pantry or at the MetroWest Interfaith Hospitality Network, and participate in food and non-food drives throughout the year.

ELDERLY

Members of the Elderly Committee provide direct service at agencies that serve the elderly, which in the 2010-2011 club year will include Wellesley's Council on Aging and the Sisters of Charity's Elizabeth Seton Residence (a skilled nursing facility).

CHILDREN

The Children's DSP works on several projects.  Members work at a local women's shelter, The Second Step, and at The Walker School.

KIDS ON THE BLOCK

Members on this DSP perform puppet shows to kindergarten and first graders in Wellesley's seven elementay schools and other local venues.  The themed skits help children understand developmental differences such as cerebral palsy, blindness and learning disabilities.

TEEN CENTER

The Wellesley Teen Center provides middle-school aged youth with safe, recreational social events several times a year.  Two WHJWC members serve on the Board of the Teen Center each year.
